104 Lesson Plan: Introducing Collocations and Word Parts using the Lexical

Levels: IEP levels 1-4
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to match prefixes and suffixes with their respective meanings, using a list.
2. Students will be able to match the first part of a verb collocation to its preposition, using a list.
3. Students will be able to fill in a preposition or verb with its match, using a list.
4. Students will identify the form of the passive.
5. Students will identify the difference between the passive and be + adjective.
6. Students will listen to and read collocations with “be.”
Materials: prefixes/suffixes list
Verb + Prepositions Collocations list
Computer with Internet access and attached printer

Procedures:
1. Hand out prefixes/suffixes list and Verb+ Preposition Collocations worksheet.
2. Students should use the sites listed above to do exercises on the Internet with these lists—most of the activities are matching activities of some sort. The activities are listed under PP104 on my homepage.
3. Students should print off the worksheets to write in their answers, then check with the solution at the bottom of each exercise.
4. On the Passive worksheet, students should visit the site linked and listen to the collocations with be.
Assessment: Students will turn in their completed worksheets and may take a quiz on the material covered.
