Final Projects

This is how I envision your final projects:

If you are a student of architecture......

In pairs or triads, select one of your favorite architects and:

  • describre/show how this architect has used, in his/her work,
    • materials (stone, brick, wood, concrete, iron, steel, glass, etc)
    • structures (arches, domes, framed structures, etc.)
    • elements (color - light)
  • prepare your presentation, it can be a PPT (slides converted to screenshots, photos, brainmaps, etc.), and record your text for each image/slide.
  • create an account in Buzznet (http://www.buzznet.com) and upload your images there, add the text, and make a link to the recording (use Audacity - mp3).
  • post the link to the photoblog (buzznet) to the wiki in week 11 (Tuesday) in Moodle.
  • be ready to present your work on Thursday, week 11.

If you are an urban planning student...

You have to do the same, but instead of selecting an architect, select a place where you can show the use of materials, structure and elements.

Some tips:

1. In Buzznet, start uploading the last image first and finish with the last one. The last one you upload will be the first one to show (the introduction to your presentation).

2. To add the links to your recordings in Buzznet, you have to use this tag, in the text area:

<a href="here you write the URL"></a>

3. Use SitePal (http://www.sitepal.com) to practice your pronunciation:

  • When you get to the main page of SitePal, click on "Try Demo"
  • Then, click on the "record" button
  • You will get a menu with different options, select "text-to-speech"
  • Write the text you want to listen to (to learn how to pronounce it) -only 600 characters are accepted- So, you can divide up your text if it is longer than that.
  • Select the voice you want to hear (man - woman - American - English).
  • Click on "create", and the robot will read the text for you. You can listen as many times as you want if you don't close the window.
  • You can even save the recording using Audacity:
  • Open Audacity, click on record
  • Click on Play at SitePal
  • When the robot stops reading, click on stop in Audacity. Then save the recording.

Be Creative!! Your work will be open to the whole world :-)
