Welcome letter

Dear Participant,

Welcome to our "Becoming a Webhead, (BaW)" EVOnline 2006 workshop!

You have just enrolled successfully in our six-week workshop and are now ready to start engaging in the activities we have prepared for you. The official session will start on January 16, but meanwhile you can get familiar with our group and activities. Feel free to contact us if you have questions.

As you know, there are two main communication modes throughout this workshop: the asynchronous mode (email) and the synchronous mode (chat). Our communication center is our Yahoo Group (YG) that enables you to be in permanent contact with all members through its distribution list (email).

There is also a Web page for the course at http://dafnegonzalez.com/baw-06/index.html

It is time to refer you to our Syllabus (http://dafnegonzalez.com/baw-06/content/syllabus.html ) where you will find a general plan of the session and direct links to the detailed activities for each week, which you can also access from the navigation bar on the left of this page.

Are you are ready to start? Well, here are the activities for Week 1 during which we will get to know one another and get acquainted with our Yahoo Group:

1. introduce yourself by sending a message to the group either through the Yahoo Group (distribution) list: baw-06@yahoogroups.com, or the “POST” feature (menu on the left) in the Yahoo Group Portal Page: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/baw-06, with the following information:

a. your first and last name. You can include the name you would like to be called,
b. Yahoo ID,
c. institution where you work or study,
d. what you do,
e. why you joined this group and the expectations you have,
f. any additional info you would like to share with the group;

2. Get on our Map. Place a pin to tell us where you are:

Join our interactive BaW-06 map! Get on the BaW-06 map!

3. post a small picture to the “PHOTOS” section (menu on the left) of our Yahoo Group (YG) ;

You can see what's next for week 1 by clicking on "week 1". You will also find all this information in the Files section of our Yahoo Group.

Before moving on, we would appreciate if you took some time to complete this exploratory survey to learn about your experience (or not) using different web tools. You will find the survey at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=284511446859 .

Well, now you are ready to continue exploring our Yahoo Group. Once again, welcome! And best wishes for the short, but hopefully gratifying, six-week journey through the fascinating cyberworld of online communication Web tools and their role in EFL/ESL!

Dafne Gonzalez and Teresa Almeida d'Eca
